Basalt's Off-Season Runs on a Weekly Calendar Through November

On a Monday in late October, Mezzaluna in Willits serves East Coast oysters from 4:30 to 9:15 p.m. The next night is Taco Tuesday. On Thursday, The Hoffmann has live music in its lobby. Friday is Fish Fridays and Saturday is Tenderloin Night, and then the cycle starts over the following Monday. The Basalt Chamber of Commerce calendar lists this schedule every week from mid-October to November 30, 2026.

That routine covers five evenings a week and continues through Thanksgiving weekend.

What the Upper Valley Does in Fall

The usual pattern up the road is temporary closures. In fall 2025, the Aspen Chamber Resort Association's fall dining guide listed Acquolina as closed from Oct. 25 to Nov. 28, Cache Cache from Oct. 5 to Dec. 4, and Betula from Oct. 12 to Nov. 25. The same guide noted that other restaurants, including Aspen Public House, Big Wrap and Clark's Oyster Bar, stayed open. Those dates come from last year's guide, not a 2026 schedule. They show a familiar rhythm, with some restaurants leaving gaps of several weeks on the calendar between the last aspen leaves and the first chairlift.

Basalt's fall calendar looks different. There are no closure dates to keep track of. What it offers is a pattern you can learn once and rely on until Thanksgiving weekend.

The Week, Night by Night

These are the nights the Basalt Chamber calendar lists for late October and November 2026:

  • Monday: Oyster Night at Mezzaluna, with fresh East Coast oysters and Monday hours of 4:30 to 9:15 p.m.
  • Tuesday: Taco Tuesday at Mezzaluna.
  • Wednesday: The Art Base opens for its week. Gallery hours run Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 174 Midland Ave.
  • Thursday: Live Music at the Hoffmann, plus Young at heART Thursdays at The Art Base.
  • Friday: Fish Fridays at Mezzaluna.
  • Saturday: Tenderloin Night at Mezzaluna.
  • Sunday: Nothing recurring on the calendar.

Mezzaluna's Willits restaurant is at 941 East Valley Road. That puts four of the five evenings at a single Willits address. The Hoffmann is at 30 Kodiak Drive in Basalt, and The Art Base is at 174 Midland Ave., so Thursday is the one night the schedule is split between two places.

The Willits restaurant scene has also grown since last fall. A February 2026 roundup on Eat Aspen listed Seoul Kitchen in Willits as opened in spring 2026 and Wild Fig Willits as one of the previous winter's arrivals. Neither has posted off-season hours on the Chamber calendar, so it makes sense to call ahead before planning a weeknight around them.

Thursday Carries the Most

Thursday is the one night with two things listed. The Hoffmann's listing on the Chamber calendar says it hosts live music in the lobby every Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., with different music each week. The early start and finish fit the off-season, when it is dark before dinner and some people still have work in the morning.

The Art Base's Young at heART Thursdays are on the Chamber calendar for Nov. 5, 12 and 19. The Art Base's own November workshop calendar adds to the week around it:

  1. Nov. 1: Mandala Meditation
  2. Nov. 12: Printing on Recycled Clothing, which falls on a Thursday
  3. Nov. 14: Art, Healing + Hope, and Layers in Color: Exploring Gouache
  4. Nov. 15: Immersive Sound & Watercolor Journey

The gallery walls change at the end of the month as well. David Clark's "Mt. Sopris in Black and White" is free and on view through Oct. 30. Chris Hassig's exhibition then opens Nov. 6 and runs through Dec. 4, also free. Its opening reception is Saturday, Nov. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. The reception ends in time to cross over to Willits for Tenderloin Night.

Daylight Goes to the Fryingpan

Taylor Creek Fly Shops' report of Oct. 10, 2026, rated the upper Fryingpan, from Mile Marker 8 up to Ruedi Reservoir, at 7 out of 10, flowing at 117 cfs. It noted that the water was cloudy and murky in the upper four miles. The shop's description of the hatch could serve as a daily schedule:

"Mornings and afternoons have been best for dry fly fishing, but the sun sitting right overhead puts a damper on things around midday. You can expect to see midges coming off around first and last light."

That is from Taylor Creek's Oct. 10 Fryingpan report, which lists blue-winged olives and midges as the main hatches, with occasional green drakes, PMDs and caddis still showing up. The same report says the river holds an average of 5,000 trout per mile, so it rewards changing flies more than changing spots. Taylor Creek also notes that the middle river can be less crowded than the upper stretch and can have hatches just as heavy on the right day.

The Roaring Fork Conservancy's Oct. 8 river report said Ruedi Reservoir releases went up by 50 cfs that Tuesday, which brought the lower Fryingpan to 117 cfs. The same report put rivers across the Roaring Fork Watershed at 38 to 82 percent of normal for early October. Nine days before Taylor Creek's report, Fly Fishing Outfitters' Oct. 1 report had flows around 124 cfs. It described the season's draw as cooler weather, fall scenery, blue-winged olives and fewer anglers than at the summer peak. Taylor Creek has two wader and boot cleaning stations at its shop for anyone following Colorado Parks and Wildlife's clean-your-gear guidance.

Put together, a weekday can mean the morning hatch and an afternoon session up the Fryingpan Road, then oysters in Willits before 9:15.

The Dates That Break the Routine

A few one-time events land on the calendar before the season turns:

  • Saturday, Oct. 17: "Swap It Like It's Hot," a free clothing swap at Basalt Regional Library, according to its Basalt Chamber listing. That same Saturday, the David Clark exhibition is still up and Tenderloin Night is on at Mezzaluna.
  • Thursday, Oct. 29: A Pumpkin Fairy House Workshop is on the Chamber calendar.
  • Friday, Nov. 6, and Saturday, Nov. 7: Chris Hassig's show opens at The Art Base on Friday, with the reception on Saturday evening.
  • Thursday, Nov. 26: Thanksgiving falls on a Thursday this year, and the Chamber calendar still lists Live Music at the Hoffmann that night. Fish Fridays follows on Nov. 27 and Tenderloin Night on Nov. 28.
  • Monday, Nov. 30: Oyster Night at Mezzaluna is the last recurring event on the Chamber's fall calendar.

The routine holds through Thanksgiving week. The Hoffmann's lobby music is listed on the holiday itself, and Mezzaluna's specials continue that weekend and into the following Monday.

These weeks between seasons are when we at Aspen Lodge Properties get to know the Roaring Fork Valley at its own pace, and that local knowledge goes into every story we tell about a property. If you're considering a home in Basalt or Willits and want to talk with someone who keeps up with the valley's calendar in every season, we'd welcome the chance to Schedule a Confidential Consultation.
